Universität Potsdam
Represented by:
Dr. Andreas Bergner
The University of Potsdam conducts research on the use of drones in the fields of geology, morphology, wildlife research and agricultural monitoring. In the research, both existing technologies are tested for new applications and corresponding methodologies of data processing and analysis are developed. At the same time, new configurations are tested, especially with regard to new sensor developments. As a university, we also pursue the education of new professionals and scientists and are committed to basic innovation research.
The association membership is supported by the Institute of Geosciences, AG Geological Remote Sensing (Prof. Bookhagen; contact person: Dr. Harald Schernthanner), the GRW network membership by Potsdam Transfer (contact person: Dr. Andreas Bergner).
The working group Geological Remote Sensing of the Institute of Geosciences uses in its research different UAVs (from multicopters to fixed wing aircraft and a fixed wing aircraft and multirotor combination drone) as carrier components for various sensor systems (e.g. LiDAR, medium format aerial camera, multispectral cameras, etc.) for the investigation of processes at the earth's surface. Point clouds, textured polygonal models, georeferenced orthophotos, DSMs/DTM are derived. The data acquired by drones complement a wide range of remote sensing data consisting of, for example, multispectral satellite imagery or SAR data, which are analyzed at the chair.
Potsdam Transfer is the central institution for knowledge and technology transfer at the University of Potsdam. Here, project cooperations with industry and joint open innovation approaches, e.g. in joint labs, are supported.
