CURPAS new member of „go-cluster"

Brandenburg Innovation Cluster advances to the Bundesliga of clusters.
With this initiative, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi) supports outstanding innovation clusters from Germany in their further development. The main focus is on networking clusters with other organizations both in Germany and internationally. CURPAS is the second innovation cluster headquartered in Brandenburg, which can look forward to its inclusion as part of BMWi's cluster-political excellence measure.

CURPAS was founded in 2016 as a network for the promotion of autonomous systems. Including 60 members today, CURPAS is an innovative association for unmanned systems on land, water, and air. The CURPAS innovation cluster works at the European level among with eight partners from six countries within the framework of the European Drones Cooperation (EDC).
Every innovation cluster in Germany can apply for inclusion in the nationwide program "go-cluster". Admission is linked to the fulfilment of various quality criteria, such as a sustainable cluster strategy, clear and unique selling points or a high capacity for innovation. In order to become part of the go-cluster initiative, the members of CURPAS have already developed a future-oriented cluster strategy together with the network management and the board of directors in 2018. Initial discussions with the project sponsor, VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH, were held in December 2019.
Finally, CURPAS applied for the cluster award by the BMWi at the end of 2020.

"It is a great honour for us to be part of the nationwide 'go-cluster' initiative. As CURPAS, we have dealt early and worked intensively on the development of a sustainable cluster strategy. We have clearly identified unique selling points that make our network, which specializes in unmanned systems", says Dr. Christina Eisenberg, CURPAS network manager.

The Brandenburg Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour and Energy, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Steinbach, emphasizes: "CURPAS makes an important contribution to the national and international networking of the drone industry and has developed in recent years into a recognized competence centre for unmanned aerial systems in Berlin-Brandenburg. The inclusion in the nationwide initiative "go-cluster" is impressive evidence of this development – and a great success. This is because the CURPAS innovation cluster has established itself in the German elite. But this is also a success for the innovation strategy of the state of Brandenburg, which consistently relies on the strengths of the capital region. CUPRAS can rely on Brandenburg to continue this policy in the long term."

Dr. Steffen Kammradt, Managing Director of the Brandenburg Economic Development Agency (WFBB), congratulates CUPRAS: "CURPAS is a top innovation cluster in Brandenburg and the capital region. The inclusion of CURPAS in the federal initiative is good news for the Brandenburg area. CURPAS has played a major role in making Brandenburg one of the German pioneers in mobility. The award strengthens this profile. As an economic development agency, we look forward to further cooperation."

Another member from Brandenburg
In addition to the GEOkomm association, CURPAS is the second sole Brandenburg innovation cluster that is part of the 'go-cluster' initiative. "As a GRW-funded Brandenburg network, we are happy to have made it. We would like to use this boost to initiate other innovative projects and to further develop our cluster strategy, together with the cluster members," says Prof. Dr. Uwe Meinberg, CEO of CURPAS e.V.
After being admitted, CURPAS has to go through various stages of 'go-cluster' membership (bronze, silver and gold). There will be close coordination between the cluster and other actors in the capital region. CURPAS is also looking forward to proactive support of the go-cluster initiative in this process.
The most powerful innovation clusters from all over Germany
Members of the 'go-cluster' program are the most powerful innovation clusters from all regions of Germany. They are pioneers of innovation and reflect the high competence of German business and science in numerous industries and technology fields.
CURPAS was founded in 2016 as a network for the promotion of autonomous systems, and in the same year the association of the same name was founded. From the very beginning, the aim of the association was to initiate new projects and to promote cooperation at the international level. CURPAS works at the European level within the framework of the European Drones Cooperation (EDC) with eight partners from six countries. The EDC is a cooperation of European organizations for unmanned systems (drones), founded in June 2019 on the initiative of CURPAS and UAS Denmark. CURPAS intends to bring the experience gained from this international cooperation into the 'go-cluster' network, including at the regional level.
